Study in Words
Posted by Cindy | Filed under Photographs, Stories
I have a thing for words. I also have a thing for alphabet blocks and fonts. And I try real hard to know when someone is better at expressing what I think in their own words.
So for this post I am simply going to share the poetry that is a song by U2.
Grace
She takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name
Grace
It’s a name for a girl
It’s also a thought that changed the world
And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness in everything
Grace, she’s got the walk
Not on a ramp or on chalk
She’s got the time to talk
She travels outside of karma
She travels outside of karma
When she goes to work
You can hear her strings
Grace finds beauty in everything
Grace, she carries a world on her hips
No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips between her fingertips
She carries a pearl in perfect condition
What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things
Grace makes beauty out of ugly things
Thanks

Capture Cincinnati Entry - Cincinnati Goes to War
Posted by Cindy | Filed under Photographs, Stories
This is another shot taken at Union Terminal in the Cincinnati History Museum. This particular shot was in a section called Cincinnati Goes to War. The area showed the impact the war had on Cincinnati and it’s citizens.
This was the section that showed was close to the end. It was two mother’s and their homes back to back. One was receiving a Western Union gram that delivered news that her son was seriously wounded in action and the other was greeting her son coming home.
I wish I could have capture both in one shot because the irony of the good and bad news really struck me but instead I choose to focus souly on the Western Union gram. Here is what it reads -
“Mrs Charlotte Toewater
Regret to inform you you son Private Fredrick R Toewater was seriously wounded in action nine February in Germany. Mail address follows direct from hospital with details.”

The Rotunda - Capture Cincinnati Entry

I have a list of things I want to do before I die. You can call it my bucket list, although I created this list before the movie came out. In that list is a section of things that I call “being a tourist in my own city“.
One of the things on my list was to attempt the whisper trick at Union Terminal.
Let me just say it works and it is a trip to think you can hear someone who is completely on the other side of the rotunda talk to you.
I took this picture while waiting for Stephanie to make it to the other side and whisper to me.

Clowns…Another Capture Cincinnati Entry

This shot comes from the Cincinnati History Museum at Union Terminal.
The Cincinnati History Museum has the nation’s largest full-motion, S-scale urban layout. It shows Cincinnati from 1900 through 1940. There are working trains, street cars, inclines, and they even have it timed to show an entire day. Apparently it is 1/64 of the actual size.
This shot caught my eye because of the color and the action created by the miniature clowns.

Capture Cincinnati…Vote 4 Me Please
Posted by Cindy | Filed under Photographs, Stories
Last year I entered a contest called Capture Cincinnati. I was published last year! A picture I took of some flowering weeds at Sharon Woods was their choice.
This year I am hoping for multiple photos to be published and to win one of their prizes.
So if you could, please take a moment and register on the site. (You have to register to vote but they aren’t annoying with their emails - I promise.) After you register visit my profile and vote for my photos. You can vote for each photo only once during the contest, but you can vote for all of them.
For the next few days I will highlight various entries I have in the contest.

One of the things I love the most about art museums is the ability to get up close to the work. I am simply drawn to want to see the way the art was created. I have this special addiction to brush strokes.
This particular painting not only feed the brush stroke addiction but it contained some of the most amazing shades of blue, which is my favorite color. So of course I had to stop and take it all in.

Fathers

Here’s the last installment for this week of the familes I had the pleasure of working with last weekend.
It’s quite a trip to grow up with people and then watch them transform into parents. Suddenly it goes from being stories of silly things you’ve done together, to stories of you will never guess what your mom or dad did when we were kids. Right before your eyes your friend morphs into a person bigger than themselves, but yet small enough to care for their child.
It has been a blast to watch both Jimi and Matthew morph before my eyes. If I had to point to 2 guys who have been by my side, I would point to them. If I had to tell you the 2 guys who have made me laugh so hard through the years, I would name these 2. If I had to tell you 2 guys who I thought made excellent fathers, I would say Jimi and Matthew. So Jimi and Matthew, should you read this, thank you for being great fathers and friends.
(Katie and Lori don’t feel gipped, you two are amazing and incredible examples of mothers to me.)
May each of these families contiune to grow in their love for each other. May they be reminded each day that they are loved not only by each other, but by others. And may they make each other smile and laugh.
I love you guys.
