Family

Family is a funny concept. There are many definitions…
A group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head : household
A group of persons of common ancestry : clan
A people or group of peoples regarded as deriving from a common stock : race
A group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation : fellowship
The basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children; also: any of various social units differing from but regarded as equivalent to the traditional family;a single-parent family.
I’d like to add another defintion
A group of people who choose to live life together. Who choose to weather the storms in life and dance in the sunshine by each other’s side. Good, bad, or ugly – they are for each other.
Both families I shot this past weekend are part of my family and I am apart of theirs and for that I am forever grateful.
Everyone Laughs

One of the things I love to do with families with little boys is to get the boys to make silly faces. It makes them (and me) laugh. It seems to have a relaxing effect on the kids and well it’s just plain fun.
So as I was getting ready to take this shot I noticed everyone was kinda being silly and goofing off, so I went with it. The result makes me smile.
A family that laughs and plays together, stays together.
Two Kids

I find myself looking at the next pictures and falling in love with them.
There is something about each shot that is so expressive. It reminds me of a particular aspect of them.
Honestly I think I’ll hush and just post the pictures.

Family

This past Saturday (7/26/08) I had the pleasure of taking photos of 2 families that mean the world to me. In both cases I have known both mom and dad for what seems like just short of forever. Both have amazing children who make me smile and laugh. Both families are examples to me of love, grace, and humor (just wait till you see the pictures).
Let me introduce you to them…first up Matthew, Lori, Noah, Isaac, and Elijah. (Poor Lori surrounded by all those boys.)
And then there is Jimi, Katie, and Olivia. (I’d say poor Jimi surrounded by all those girls, but Lori is outnumbered more.)
Stay tuned this week as these guys will be highlighted.
Thanks to the Whole Family

Well today will wrap up my week highlighting Kyle, Kathy, Adam, Nate and Aiden. I want to thank them again for being willing subjects and for having fun with me.
This picture is of the whole family chilling on the park bench enjoying the shade. (It was nice and toasty out when we were shooting.)
May this family grow stronger together as each moment passes.
Thirsty

Having your picture taken can really take it out of you. It can make you hot and thirsty. Just ask Nate.
As you can tell the cool water from the water fountain was just what he needed and wanted to play in.
The Big Brother

Contiuning on with the photo shoot from Saturday….
Allow me to introduce you to Adam. Adam was a wonderful helper getting Nate and Aiden to look at me and helping entertain one while I was taking pictures of the other. You could tell he loves his brothers.
So when it was time to take pictures of just him, he seemed a bit camera shy. He did warm up to me and I do believe he had a good time not only helping but getting his own picture taken.
For several of the pictures we went over to an area where there are some trees that just scream to be climbed. I thought what better place to have a picture taken than in the tree. So being a the good sport that Adam is, he climbed up in the tree.
I love this picture. I love the fact that the trees are real and not some fake backdrop. And Adam you are just too adorable. Don’t break too many hearts as you get older.
Excuse Me While I Steal Your Heart

Yet another lovely photo from the shoot this past Saturday.
First let me encourage you to go to Aiden and Nathaniel’s blog. These boys have overcome more hurdles in 9 months than most people do their entire life. They were born at 27 weeks and 6 days. For me, being asked to take photos of them was a complete honor. To be able to freeze time via photographs to help document their incredible story is priceless.
This photo is of Aiden and to me it simply screams, “excuse me while I steal your heart.”
We had been trying to get pictures of him with this lion for a few minutes and were semi-unsuccessful. Then all of the sudden the boy turned on the charm and I couldn’t fire the shutter quick enough.
So please be prepared for your heart to be stolen. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you.)
A Most Adorable Couple

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of shooting a completely adorable family of 5. They were great and very flexible with me as a photographer. It was a pure joy to shoot them.
Throughout the rest of the week I will show you my favorites from their session.
This is Kathy and Kyle. I stole them away from their kids for just a few seconds to take a picture of them together.
May their love for each other contiune to grow.
Welcome to the Family

Well 242ish bucks later my car is not pouring antifreeze, which is a very good thing.
Also currently sitting on my desk at home is the iMac from Craigslist.
Yesterday morning, moments after learning the dreaded total of my car repair, I was offered a loan for the 500 to buy the iMac. After I got over the back to back shock, I said yes to the loan and realized that I should be glad because at least I had some money saved to cover the car repair.
Honestly I got WAY more for 500 than I should have. The iMac is probably 12x better than my powerbook and the more I play with it, the more I’ll figure out just how much better it is.
So, I’m back to saving and selling to pay for the lovely “new to me” iMac.
Here’s the newest member of my family.
